What draws you into a role play?

This is a rather difficult question to answer. There are some obvious reasons, first being general attraction to the theme/genre of a given roleplay. For example, I look at pretty much every fantasy roleplay that gets created on Gateway, but if I see a real life or animal RP, I won't bother reading anything. Reason number two would probably be how much work the GM put into their roleplay. It doesn't even have to be highly detailed, if the GM spends enough time gathering/catering to their players then it should be good. In fact, I am turned off roleplays that have a lot of information instantly available/necessary - I don't want to read 5 pages of text only to find out this isn't my kind of thing (and the greater the detail, the greater the chance of that happening due to differences of opinion). Finally, this relates to the latter part of the joining (or not) process, characters. If there are already some characters made, I am going to look at them to see what sort of people I am going to end up interacting with. If I dislike the characters, meaning how they are (most likely) going to be played (there are some tell-tale signs you start noticing with experience), I won't join the game, simply because no matter how great it would have been, these people are going to ruin it for me (and pretty much everyone but themselves).
