SharePoint Services division is open for business ... - Colligo Networks

I?m happy to announce the introduction of Colligo?s new SharePoint Services division. Our services, in conjunction with Colligo?s solutions, are designed to enable organizations that are adopting SharePoint and Colligo to minimize the impact to end users, and maximize the ROI on their investment.

For the past eight years, Colligo has provided professional services to our customers, so our ?new? division isn?t so much new as formalized. We?ve worked closely with thousands of business leaders, technology professionals, and end users during this time, helping them to extend SharePoint to better address their collaboration, content management, and mobility requirements.

It?s this experience we?re drawing from to offer services engagements for SharePoint mobility and BYOD strategies and implementation; best practices for structuring information and metadata to support compliance and discoverability; evaluation, customization, configuration and deployment packages; and end user and administrator training.

I?ve witnessed incredible growth in SharePoint during my three years with Colligo, and in my previous position at Capgemini, where I created successful business change programs for SharePoint. I know from experience that a professionally-managed deployment is the most effective way to ensure a successful project. And that means making sure the solution solves the business challenges for the organization in a way that end users and senior managers will both embrace.

As the leader of this division, my role, and all of our projects, are highly focused on the business change you want to achieve. If you have a need to simplify change management, maximize end user productivity, and drive SharePoint adoption across your organization, let me know. I?d be happy to help.

First of all, why is it that you want a handheld gps devices for surveying? Surely for anyone who is doing these things you might be interested in a good solid Gps device. What other items should most people be thinking about?

Maybe you have looked at the selection of devices on the market? In the event that you have you must know the variety of Gps unit systems this current year continues to grow by leaps and bounds. We have found mobile systems, attached devices designed for cars or trucks along with bicycles and also versions we are able to wear on our own arms. GPS track for a bike ride I went on yesterday.

Choosing the configuration is packed with a great number of decisions, which is less of a challenge considering the fact that we realise our own financial budget at this point. It could be that something small such as the wristwatch type is best for you because it is so convenient as well as simple to take along with you. Would you rather a unit that you can grip within your hand just like a cell phone? Or maybe do you want one that you permanently install as part of your vehicle or mountain bike, merely to be removed to swap or charge the battery packs? You happen to be correct! The actual alternatives can be consuming but building a list of the devices as short as possible before shopping will help you discover the best unit to suit your needs.

Next choices we are going to have a look at immediately after deciding on price range and model is just what options you may be in search of. Such as road map up-dates is significant as well as legibility and screen size. Several other different options that may be thought about may be if the product remembers lap times regarding cyclists, or if it monitors travel times and if it provides a sizeable memory so its possible to use the device for fitness.

A new function in some places is these products can show an individual road traffic. Within Europe this is very common. If you don?t drive a car then the option is definitely of zero value however, if a person does then it could possibly be the most essential function for your completely new Gps unit device.

Yet another worthwhile function you might want to give some thought to is the option of making use of unit hands-free. It has become increasingly popular because of the new laws that are released with regard to distracted driving.

We certainly have considered numerous things when purchasing an automobile gps central and / or best handheld gps for boating herein and also wish they guide you in discovering a unit also. Mind-boggling isn?t a expression we want to use in trying to find an ideal Bicycle GPS product this is exactly why we have created this article determined by our own previous ordeals in buying devices for our automobile and also our own bicycles. If you do this you will locate a model that provides you with all the current features you require furthermore at an affordable price.

Skeletons in cave reveal Mediterranean secrets

ScienceDaily (Nov. 28, 2012) ? Skeletal remains in an island cave in Favignana, Italy, reveal that modern humans first settled in Sicily around the time of the last ice age and despite living on Mediterranean islands, ate little seafood. The research is published November 28 in the open access journal PLOS ONE by Marcello Mannino and colleagues from the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology, Germany.

Genetic analysis of the bones discovered in caves on the Egadi islands provides some of the first mitochondrial DNA data available for early humans from the Mediterranean region, a crucial piece of evidence in ancestry analysis. This analysis reveals the time when modern humans reached these islands. Mannino says, "The definitive peopling of Sicily by modern humans only occurred at the peak of the last ice age, around 19,000 -26,500 years ago, when sea levels were low enough to expose a land bridge between the island and the Italian peninsula."

The authors also analyzed the chemical composition of the human remains and found that these early settlers retained their hunter-gatherer lifestyles, relying on terrestrial animals rather than marine sources for meat. According to the study, despite living on islands during a time when sea level rise was rapid enough to change within a single human lifetime, these early settlers appear to have made little use of the marine resources available to them. The authors conclude, "These findings have crucial implications for studies of the role of seafood in the diet of Mediterranean hunter-gatherers."

Prosperity Series 1: What is Your Focus On?Scarcity or Abundance?

You?re In Control of Your Success

Clunker vs Mercedes

Is your hidden, subconscious attention on the clunker or the Mercedes Benz?

Your prosperity depends on your focus. Some people focus on scarcity while a growing minority focus on abundance. It might surprise you that a great many people who hunger for prosperity are actually focusing on the opposite. ?What?? you may ask. ?Are they cracked?? The trouble is, they don?t realise they?re doing it.

The Law of Attraction has been around throughout human existence. Some of our greatest thinkers have used this deliberately?Plato, Shakespeare, Newton, Beethoven, Hugo, Lincoln, Emerson, Edison and Einstein.

Just like gravity, it doesn?t care if you believe in it or not. But think about this for a moment. With the Law of Gravity, delusion could prove fatal. Imagine thumbing your nose at gravity while stepping off a 30-story building. With the Law of Attraction, delusion could keep you struggling while others around you thrive. The Law of Attraction states that what you put your attention on you attract into your life. That?s why most successful people become more and more prosperous, while most of the poorer folk amongst us continue to struggle.

Mountain Climber

A mountain climber seemingly defies gravity, but they know it?s certain death if they don?t respect the Law of Gravity.

Every successful person uses it, whether or not they?re conscious of it. I used the Law of Attraction for forty years before I knew what it was called. My use of it started out rather hit-or-miss. I didn?t know what direction I wanted to go. But wouldn?t you like to have greater control over your own direction in life? Understanding these principles is critical to that desire.

What you need to do to use the Law of Attraction is simple.

  1. Ask?Simply write down, as specific as you can, exactly what you want to achieve. This is just like ?goal setting.? And if you?re uncomfortable with setting goals, we have a refresher in part 5, but include some vital new stuff you may not know.
  2. Answer? Here, you don?t need to do anything. The universe handles this part for you. This is where inspiration or serendipity occur. This is where opportunity presents itself.
  3. Receive? What you have to do here is to prepare yourself to receive that for which you have asked. Some people sabotage themselves by focusing on something entirely different and giving up. Or like so many lottery winners, they are uncomfortable with all their winnings and fritter them away.

It?s All in the Focus

The mind is a powerful tool. What makes it frustrating sometimes is that people can think and say one thing, but end up doing something entirely different.

There are two types of consciousness at work, here:

  • Conscious Awareness
  • Subconscious Attention

Have you ever been so busy in some activity that you utterly miss the fact that you scraped your arm or banged your thigh against the furniture? Later, you may see the bruise or the scrape and wonder where that came from and when that happened. Your awareness and attention were on something else entirely. But awareness and attention are rarely on the same thing, at least for most people.

Have you ever had a nagging pain that you forced out of your conscious mind, because you had an urgent project to complete? That pain snares your attention while your conscious awareness cranks away on the project. You may grow completely unaware of the pain as it becomes a dull throb in the background of your mind.

Now, consider what happens when your awareness is on completing your urgent project, but your attention is on missing the deadline. This is frequently called ?worry,? and it kills more projects than you can count.

Whatever your attention is focused on you tend to get more of. This is the Law of Attraction at work.

Awareness versus Attention

Awareness is ?straight ahead? into consciousness. Attention, on the other hand, is off to the side, at the periphery, in the subconscious. This is where reality is created.

Here are some other examples:

  • Your conscious awareness wishes for prosperity, but your attention is focused on massive debt. These two ideas are incompatible, and guess which one wins?debt!
  • Awareness longs for a meaningful relationship, but your attention is focused on loneliness. If you guess the result is more loneliness, pat yourself on the back.
  • Awareness hopes to be trim and healthy, but your attention is focused on being overweight. This is called ?self-sabotage.?

It?s a fact that behaviour is driven by beliefs. But now beliefs are held in place by subconscious feelings. And your results are controlled largely by your behaviour. So, if you can control your subconscious feelings, you can have greater control over your results.

You may consciously know how to make a prosperous living, but your attention may focus on some self-sabotaging subconscious feeling like, ?rich people are evil,? ?money is too materialistic,? or ?I don?t deserve prosperity.? The problem is that you may not be consciously aware of the underlying feeling.

One motivational speaker had called this subconscious activity, ?background chatter.? Becoming aware of this area of the mind for the first time startled me. While standing in the shower, one morning, I heard that little voice in the background of my thoughts telling me how I would be late and that I would not amount to much. I couldn?t believe I was harbouring such feelings.

Instead of laughing off the idea and ignoring those negative feelings, I pulled them fully into the light of conscious awareness and took a good look at them. I acknowledged them and then dismissed them, but not before first replacing them with something far more positive??I?m always on time and I excel at everything I do.? Frequently, it will take repetition to build a new habit?a new paradigm for your subconscious.

But one thing that many of the self-help gurus forget to mention is that positive thinking and affirmations are not enough. You have to feel the desired end result. In other words, you have to start living as if you?re already there. This doesn?t mean maxing out your credit card. It does mean, though, doing everything you can to maintain the feeling of success.

Some Techniques for Maintaining Focus on Success and Abundance

Symbol of business success -- skyscraper.

Skyscraper is a symbol of success.

In business, prosperity means abundance?lots of customers, lots of sales and lots of resources to keep the pipeline filled and the enterprise growing.

So how do you keep your focus of attention on the abundance you deserve? Here are some suggestions:

  • Ask yourself what such abundance would feel like, and then hold that feeling in your mind. Do this for a minute or two several times per day. Practice it until the feeling becomes a natural part of your life.
  • How would such a successful person behave? How would they walk and talk? Practice doing this.
  • What do you picture yourself having as a result of your new abundance? If it?s an expensive new car, then go test drive that car. Take your camera along and with you behind the wheel, have the salesperson take several pictures of you waving to the camera. Make it real. Take the pictures home and put them up on your wall or on a ?vision board? to document all of your goals.
  • Walk into a skyscraper like you own the place. Feel good? Feel strange? Keep practicing until it feels natural. Be sure and dress the part.

The worst thing you could do is to focus your attention on what you don?t want. If you have debt, set up an automatic debt payment plan, and then forget about the debt. You need to focus on your prosperity.

Coming up Next

In the next part of this series, we?ll look at some amazingly counterintuitive aspects of your mind. And your mind is, after all, your single greatest asset.

What Is E-Commerce? - Internet Marketing Blog 101

What is e-commerce?

e-Commerce, also known as eCommerce, is short for ?electronic commerce.? Great.

What Is e-Commerce?

So what?s ?electronic commerce,? then?

Simple.

It?s buying and selling stuff over the Internet.

?Stuff? can include goods, services, or both. e-Commerce covers a broad range of businesses, from stores selling specific products, to auctions, to (legal, paid-for) downloading of music and movies.

It has become one of the most important results of the spread of the Internet.

Think about it.

You can go online, buy a book, and have it delivered to your door the next day, without ever setting foot in a bookstore.

It seems so natural now, but people couldn?t always do that. When it comes to buying and selling stuff, barriers of time and distance mean very little anymore.

e-Commerce has grown incredibly fast over the last few years. Expect this to continue, or even accelerate. Also, you can expect the line between ?regular? and ?e? commerce to blur more and more.

Almost every kind of business will be at least partly over the Internet.

What is e-commerce?

It?s a new way of doing business, relying on innovations in moving money and information around electronically, marketing goods and services over the Internet, processing the actual transaction online and Internet security.

The explosive growth of e-commerce creates amazing opportunities. The chance of getting rich inspires people to invent new and better ways of doing all this. Modern e-commerce usually relies mostly on the World Wide Web, at least in part, although it can involve quite a range of technology from the old-fashioned phone call to email to dedicated electronic connections between the business and the customer.

Businesses also sell stuff to other businesses, rather than to consumers, over the Internet.

Business to business e-commerce is usually referred to as ?B2B?.

Manufacturers buy parts, retail stores buy from wholesalers, everybody hires programmers, and more and more of this is getting done over the Internet. e-Commerce has a lot of advantages over old-fashioned approaches for B2B. Done right, e-commerce is faster, cheaper, more convenient and can reach more potential customers.

It?s worth mentioning that when we describe e-commerce as buying and selling stuff over the internet, it doesn?t quite tell the whole story. It isn?t just selling, e-Commerce also includes passing data back and forth in order for financing and payment to happen.

After all, what is the point of selling stuff if you don?t get paid for it??.right?

Oh. One more thing. You know that tiny little lower case ?e? at the beginning of the word e-commerce?

Ever wonder why it?s not a large, beefy upper case E?

The answer is simple: the e stands for electronic, and electronic, literally, means having to do with electrons.

Electrons are the sub-atomic particles whose moving around gives us energy in the form of electricity.

The scientific symbol for electron is a small e.

What is e-commerce??..Business done electronically. Buying and selling stuff over the Internet. ??Soon, it may be all commerce.

..What do you think about e-commerce??

Sweeping changes suggested for Pa. child-abuse law

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) ? A commission set up by the Pennsylvania Legislature after Jerry Sandusky's molestation arrest last year says "sweeping" changes to state law are needed.

The Pennsylvania Task Force on Child Protection announced Tuesday its recommendations, which include rewriting state law.

It says the state should change how child abuse cases are handled, revamp how child abuse crimes are investigated, and improve training for those responsible for child welfare.

The group says the state should eliminate a requirement that children have to experience severe pain in order to be classified as abuse under the law.

The definition of "perpetrator" would be expanded greatly and penalties would be harsher for people who don't report abuse.

Sandusky, a former Penn State assistant football coach, is serving a state prison sentence for child sexual abuse.

Medical Minute: Guide to Gynecologic Cancers | Birmingham Mommy

featured, to live ? By Trish on November 26, 2012 at 8:14 am

How much do you know about the cancers that affect women? There are five main gynecologic cancers (cervical, ovarian, uterine, vaginal, and vulvar).

Cervical Cancer

All women are at risk for cervical cancer, though it occurs most often in women over age 30. Each year, about 12,000 women in the United States get cervical cancer. The?human papillomavirus (HPV)?is the main?cause.cause of cervical cancer.?HPV is a common virus that is passed from one person to another during sex. At least 50% of sexually active people will have HPV at some point in their lives, but few women will get cervical cancer.

Cervical cancer is highly preventable in most Western countries because?screening testsscreening tests?and a?vaccine?to prevent HPV infections are available. When cervical cancer is found early, it is highly treatable and associated with long survival and good quality of life.

Ovarian Cancer

Ovarian cancer causes more deaths than any other cancer of the female reproductive system, but it accounts for only about 3% of all cancers in women.? Treatment is most effective when the ovarian cancer is found in its early stages. There are often signs and symptoms, so it is important to pay attention to your body and know what is normal for you.

All women are at risk for ovarian cancer, but older women are more likely to get the disease than younger women. About 90% of women who get ovarian cancer are older than 40 years of age, with the greatest number of cases occurring in women aged 60 years or older.

Uterine Cancer

The most common type of uterine cancer is also called endometrial cancer. It forms in the lining of your uterus, the endometrium. Treatment is most effective when it is found early. Though all women are at risk for uterine cancer, the risk increases with age with a majority found in women who are going through or who have gone through menopause.

Uterine cancer is the 4th?most common cancer and the most commonly diagnosed gynecologic cancer. In 2008, 43,134 women in the United States were diagnosed with uterine cancer.

Vaginal and Vulvar Cancer

Vaginal and vulvar cancers are very rare. All women are at risk for these cancers, but very few will get them. Together, they account for 6%?7% of all gynecologic cancers diagnosed in the U.S.

Contact your Dr. immediately if you feel that you are at risk or would like more information on anything mentioned above.

Study links improved consumer welfare to increased prescription drug advertising efforts

ScienceDaily (Nov. 26, 2012) ? More people are better off thanks to the impact of an influx of direct-to-consumer advertising spending than they would be without those marketing efforts, according to a study recently published by Jayani Jayawardhana, an assistant professor in the University of Georgia College of Public Health.

The multi-year study focused on advertising efforts surrounding cholesterol-reducing prescription medications. Jayawardhana found increased levels of consumer welfare due to direct-to-consumer advertising than when compared to situations without this type of marketing. Her research, which was published in the International Journal of Industrial Organization, concludes that such efforts also spurred under-diagnosed patients to seek medical treatment.

Federal deregulation of prescription drug marketing in 1997 lowered cost barriers and enabled manufacturers to advertise prescription drugs without including a detailed summary of the product. Since the relaxation of those rules, advertising spending from pharmaceutical companies has increased by more than 200 percent.

Jayawardhana, a health economist in the college's department of health policy and management, said her study was the first to provide an analysis of consumer welfare that demonstrated a connection to the increased marketing expenditures. It also adds further support to existing academic research suggesting that direct-to-consumer advertising efforts lead to a more informed and more inquisitive consumer, which could lead to better health outcomes.

"Let's say you see a commercial for Lipitor, and you suspect that you have high cholesterol, so you come and ask for that drug from the physician," Jayawardhana said. "For whatever reason, the doctor may assume that isn't the best drug for you, and you get prescribed Zocor instead. The point isn't that you didn't get the drug you saw on the commercial but rather that you came to the doctor and got treatment for your condition, which leads to welfare improvement."

Because of the role of physician in the decision-making process, pharmaceutical companies have to market their drugs to the two purchasing agents involved -- the consumer and the physician.

"When you see an advertisement for something like Coke, the intent is to give you an incentive to go buy the product," she said. "But with the prescription drug market, the consumer is not the final decision maker. You have to go through a gatekeeper in the physician."

Jayawardhana's research indicates those advertising efforts-to both consumers and physicians-are paying off. In addition to heightened consumer awareness, targeted advertising toward physicians has both an informative and persuasive effect on the selection of the drug.

Jayawardhana, who holds master's and doctoral degrees in economics from the University of Virginia, said critics of the federal deregulation have suggested the marketing spending boom could lead to a myriad of harmful results-such as patients requesting and receiving inappropriate drugs or higher dosages than necessary from their physician.

While such incidents may be possible, it is difficult to recognize such outcomes in the data. However, because physicians act as gatekeepers for prescription drugs and consumers have limited access to advertised products, such negative outcomes may be scarce, she said.

For Thanksgiving travelers, a smooth trip home

SEATTLE (AP) ? Travelers heading home after the long Thanksgiving weekend had yet another reason to be thankful on Sunday: favorable weather and few airport delays reported on what is traditionally the busiest travel day of the year.

Although there was little elbow room on packed buses, trains and airplanes, travel appeared to be running smoothly as millions of people trekked home after feasting with family and friends.

Experts had predicted a slight rise in the number of people traveling this Thanksgiving weekend compared to last year. Some 43.6 million Americans were expected to journey 50 miles or more between Wednesday and Sunday, and more of them were likely to be driving while fewer were flying, according to AAA's yearly analysis.

Mauro Scappa and his wife, Chris, and their two children were among those who chose not to take to the skies. They braced themselves for delays as they waited at New York's Penn Station for a train back to Washington, near their home in Falls Church, Va. But their train was expected on time Sunday morning.

"We definitely wanted to avoid the airport on Thanksgiving weekend, for sure," Scappa said.

Renee Kerns, her husband Mike and their two children left about 30 minutes earlier than usual to catch a flight to home to California. They anticipated longer lines at the Washington-area Dulles International Airport, but sailed through security in about 10 minutes and were at their gate for their 8:30 a.m. flight to Oakland, Calif., more than an hour before their flight.

"It was fine," Renee Kerns said of getting through security. Added her husband: "Easy, but we're early."

Helped by dry weather and mostly clear skies, both O'Hare and Midway international airports in Chicago reported normal operations Sunday with no delays.

Leonard Reddick, 29, waited near downtown Chicago for a bus back to Flint, Mich. He traveled on Thanksgiving day to see his sister in the Chicago area, explaining that it's his trick for avoiding the huge crowds on the day before the holiday. He also liked the $84 roundtrip fare.

Reddick, who works at General Motors, was rethinking one decision as he was gearing up for the five-hour trip back home to Michigan: He had declined the turkey and mac and cheese leftovers because he thought it might mess up his luggage.

The tens of millions of holiday travelers also included a few thousand users of Megabus, the ultra-cheap inter-city network popular among students and the creative class. Shane Dillon, 26, a librarian now living and seeking work in Chicago, joined the throng waiting to board at Detroit's Rosa Parks Transit Center for the return trip to the Windy City. He was in the area visiting relatives in Allen Park, Mich.

"It was great to see family and friends. The food was good," Dillon said. A few days, though, was enough. "I'm glad to be going home."

Dense fog greeted travelers at Union Station in Los Angeles early Sunday, but it didn't appear to cause problems.

Mike Lansing, 63, and his wife Kay, 60, opted to take Amtrak for the first time to their home in the San Francisco Bay area after weighing high gas prices. They spent a week in LA with their daughter, son-in-law and new grandson.

He said he's relieved not to have to get behind the wheel. "I don't know if we're really saving any money, but it's an adventure!" said Kay Lansing.

Other travelers strategically hit the road early, or planned to wait until much later Sunday to avoid possible bumper-to-bumper traffic that bogged down drivers on Wednesday.

Craig Haft, 57, left Cincinnati with his wife and daughter around 6:15 a.m. Sunday to drive to their home in Fairfax, Va., after visiting family. At mid-day Sunday, he reported smooth driving.

"It went fine on Wednesday and has been good so far today," he said.

Some were upbeat despite long journeys ahead. Andy Harbison, 38, said he didn't mind the 8-hour drive back to Harrisburg, Pa. after visiting family in Michigan.

The roads were good, he said, and he simply enjoyed being with family after being away from them during previous deployments to Iraq and Kuwait while in the National Guard.

At the Boise Airport, Charles Beyer, 59, waited for luggage after having just arrived from Portland, Ore., where he visited his son and daughter. He said he found most of his fellow passengers complacent about the challenges of traveling during the holiday weekend through packed airports.

"The good old days of pulling up to the curb and getting onto the airplane in five minutes are long gone," he said.

Study: Drinking a soda per day increases cancer risk | The Raw Story

By Agence France-Presse
Monday, November 26, 2012 13:25 EST

?

Men who drink one normal-sized soft drink per day are at greater risk of getting more aggressive forms of prostate cancer, according to a Swedish study released Monday.

?Among the men who drank a lot of soft drinks or other drinks with added sugar, we saw an increased risk of prostate cancer of around 40 percent,? said Isabel Drake, a PhD student at Lund University.

The study, to be published in the upcoming edition of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, followed over 8,000 men aged 45 to 73 for an average of 15 years.

Those who drank one 330-millilitre (11-fluid-ounce) soft drink a day were 40 percent more likely to develop more serious forms of prostate cancer that required treatment.

The cancer was discovered after the men showed symptoms of the disease, and not through the screening process known as Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA).

Those who ate a diet heavy on rice and pasta increased their risk of getting milder forms of prostate cancer, which often required no treatment, by 31 percent, while a high intake of sugary breakfast cereals raised the incidence of milder forms of the cancer to 38 percent, Drake told AFP.

While further research was needed before dietary guidelines could be changed, there are already plenty of reasons a person should cut back on soft-drink consumption, she noted.

The men in the study had to undergo regular medical examinations and kept a journal of their food and drink intake.

Previous studies have shown that Chinese and Japanese immigrants in the US develop prostate cancer more often than peers in their home countries.

Further research on how genes respond to different diets would make it possible to ?tailor food and drink guidelines for certain high-risk groups,? Drake said.

On Cliff, Ryan Faces Choice of Two Paths

Fresh from the campaign trail and mulling his options for the future, former vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan will play a pivotal role in negotiations over the fiscal cliff and faces a choice of two paths.

The Wisconsin congressman, known for his zeal for budget cutting, could opt for ideological purity and emerge as a leading voice urging his fellow Republicans to resist tax increases and demand steep cuts in entitlement spending.

Or he could use his role as House Budget Committee chairman to push for the best deal possible for Republicans but then demonstrate bipartisanship by getting behind a compromise.

Either path holds perils for the Republican lawmaker, who became an instant focus of speculation as a potential 2016 White House contender following his failed vice presidential bid. If he insists on too hard a line in the budget talks, he could potentially open a rift with other leaders in his party and get blamed for scuttling a deal. On the other hand, any compromise could leave Ryan open to criticism from the Republican base and vulnerable to a challenger from the right in 2016.

Republican strategist Steve Schmidt said Ryan has an incentive to work toward an agreement.

?The ability to show you've been practical, the ability to show that you've compromised, the ability to show that you have bent the negotiations in your direction and got the best deal that you can, all of those things position you better than pure ideology in the context of a presidential campaign,? said Schmidt, a top adviser to John McCain?s 2008 presidential campaign. ?He has the ability to provide leadership in a situation like this and perhaps this will be his greatest test.?
But Ryan?s own history suggests that he would not cut any deal unless it went far enough toward his top priority: curbing spending on Medicare and other entitlements. When he served on the Simpson-Bowles deficit-reduction commission in 2010, he was one of seven on the 18-member panel who voted against the final proposal because he felt it didn?t do enough to restructure Medicare and thought the proposed increase in tax revenue was too high. The proposal fell three votes short of the ?supermajority? of 14 it would have needed to be sent to Congress for a vote.

In 2011, Ryan asked to be left off the supercommittee that was tasked with identifying further savings in the wake of a debt-ceiling agreement. He cited his own budget work and voiced doubts about how much the group could achieve. It did indeed fail, which is why lawmakers and the White House must now use the current lame-duck session of Congress to try to avert the $1.2 trillion in automatic budget cuts known as the sequester set to kick in at the start of next year.

This time, Ryan has more skin in the game. As a member of House leadership, he does not have the option of sitting out the fiscal cliff negotiations. In a change from the debt-ceiling talks, he has joined the daily Republican leadership meetings, alongside Ways and Means chairman Dave Camp, Committee on Energy and Commerce chairman Fred Upton. ?Chairman Ryan is back here because he wants to solve these problems,? said Boehner spokesman Brendan Buck.

House GOP staff, including Austin Smythe, the Budget Committee?s staff director, huddled with White House aides on the Hill last week to begin talking about the broad concepts that will guide negotiations, though no dollar amounts have been set yet. After Thanksgiving, once concepts are nailed down, the principals can begin negotiating.

Ryan has publicly echoed House Speaker John Boehner in signaling openness to revenue increases but not higher tax rates, meaning he might support the closing of tax loopholes or other revenue-raising steps. He was privy to the wording that Boehner used in the public remarks on the fiscal cliff he delivered the day after the election.
?He opposes raising tax rates because doing so would stifle economic growth and cost jobs,? said Conor Sweeney, a Ryan spokesman. He added that Ryan wants to see what the White House?s opening argument will be and whether President Obama will ?offer responsible solutions, identify specific spending cuts, and demonstrate leadership to tackle this pressing challenge.?

Ryan will press ?very, very hard? on long-term entitlement reform, said Bill Hoagland, a former aide to Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, who has been in touch with Ryan?s staff.

If Ryan can wring concessions from Democrats on entitlements, it could help his presidential ambitions. ?If he's running in two or four years from now he'll be able to say [the deficit was reduced] because of my insistence on entitlement reform,? said Hoagland, who is now a senior vice president at the Bipartisan Policy Center.

Republicans feel confident in pressing for long-term entitlement reform as part of ?grand bargain? negotiations because polling on Medicare during the campaign suggested the issue was not a major liability for Ryan and Republican White House nominee Mitt Romney, despite a barrage of Democratic attacks zeroing in on the Wisconsin congressman?s Medicare plan.

Eric Ueland, Frist?s former chief of staff, said Republicans recognize that Ryan might have to cede some ground in the budget talks because Democrats hold a significant amount of leverage, given that they still control the Senate and that President Obama won his re-election bid. ?What he does and what he?s able to do is judged against the baseline,? said Ueland, now a vice president at the Duberstein Group.

But Ryan?s critics doubt Democrats will be able to negotiate with him. ?Nothing we?ve seen so far under Chairman Ryan suggests that he?s willing and or capable of negotiating bipartisan legislation. Hope springs eternal but I don?t have a lot of it,? said Jim Manley, a former aide to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid who is now at QGA Public Affiars.

Instead of seeing his national stature enhanced, Manley said he hopes Ryan will become an ?afterthought? in the negotiations if he refuses to make any concessions. Alternatively, he could complicate Boehner?s ability to negotiate a deal by presenting a challenge from the right.

But Douglas Holtz-Eakin, a former Congressional Budget Office director, predicted Republican House lawmakers would present a united front. ?This is not a case where the administration?s going to divide and conquer,? said Holtz-Eakin, president of the American Action Forum.

Anti-tax activist Grover Norquist disagreed with the notion that the congressman would feel pressure to water down his own principles in order to portray himself as a pragmatic dealmaker. ?He will be both a man who can sell a plan to the rank and file and can sell a no vote to Boehner,? said Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform.

Steven Smith, a political science professor at Washington University in St. Louis, wrote in an email that Ryan might emulate former Democratic Sen. Sam Nunn, a powerful voice on national security issues. In Ryan?s case, he could take a hard line during negotiations and only offer his support for a Boehner-backed deal at the last minute. For Nunn, this offered the appearance that he was careful and principled. But, Smith warned, ?This is not an easy path for a prospective presidential candidate.?

?First, endorsing a moderate solution risks alienating the core of the party,? he wrote, noting that it was unlikely Nunn could have won his party's nomination for president. ?Second, a long-term deal may take budget issues off the agenda and reduce the advantage that Ryan has over the field of candidates. Unfortunately, the alternative path, playing to the right and standing in the way of a Boehner deal with Obama, is not likely to be popular with the general electorate.?

For now, Ryan is keeping his cards close to the vest. Bill Kristol, editor of the Weekly Standard and a leader in the effort to get Ryan into presidential politics, professed no knowledge of Ryan?s intentions.

?My strategy is to acknowledge Obama won, cut the best deal you can, and live to fight another day for big tax and entitlement reform,? he wrote in an e-mail.

As for Ryan?s, people will have to wait and see.

kinramnaiji: Home Improvement: What To Grasp Prior To Starting ...

Friday, November 23rd, 2012 at 12:32 AM ?

Most folks hear the term ?home improvement? and immediately reach for the Yellow Pages. Nonetheless it doesn't need to be as difficult a job as you think. There are lots of do it yourself strategies to do-it-yourself. This article will offer you 1 or 2 creative tips for improving your home, without spending a lot.

Choose satin paint in an area that may need constant cleaning. Satin paint has a gorgeous glaze, and is appropriate for family room and children?s rooms, and the loo or kitchen, as it is really easy to wash. Don't forget that touch-ups can be tough, as a difference in sheen would be obvious.

If you are planning on painting a room as part of a home improvement project, you are able to save cash by accurately guesstimating the quantity of paint you will need. One gallon of paint will cover about 350 square feet of wall space, unless you are painting drywall, which absorbs more paint. A precise guess can prevent you from overbuying paint, which once mixed in a specific colour generally can?t be returned.

A great thing about interior decorating is that often it doesn't have to match. You can purchase a great dining room table and mix and match chairs. This is superb for cottage and country-styled houses. Buying a table 2nd hand and adding chairs from different places basically creates a great design element, as well as a feeling of achievement. Give those used chairs a chance to shine!

Always keep your work area clean when doing home improvements. Many accidents happen when an area is cluttered with waste and you cannot move and work properly. Take some time from your project and clean the waste from the area. This is going to help keep you protected from trips, falls, and tangled cords.

If you're painting your home, be sure to clean off your brushes as soon as you have finished using them. Letting paint dry on the brushes can inflict damage on the bristles and make them less effective. Also , if you fail to clean brushes fully and then move on to color another room, flecks of the first paint colour may finish up in the new color.

Never underestimate your home-improvement project. Prior to beginning, jot down a list of the mandatory steps that must definitely be followed, and have it reviewed by someone who is more informed than you to be certain there are no missing steps. Overestimate the time needed to complete the project in case there are any unforeseen complications.

For a paint finish that really lasts, always sand, strip and prime, before trying a fresh coat. Many people think that skipping the preparatory steps of painting will accelerate the procedure , but down the road old paint will peel thru the new finish, spoiling your paint job and making you strip off one more layer of paint before repainting again.

In summary, home-improvement is simpler now than ever. By using the tips provided, you can be on your way to having the home you have always dreamed of. With a little time, energy and creativeness, you are sure to create the ideal look for your home. The best part is you can reach it all for fragments of what you would pay a professional.
